Neretljak now has another winners medal to add to the Super Cup medal he won in March as Suwon won the Hauzen Cup (Korean League Cup) yesterday.

1. Suwon 25pts
2. Ulsan 23pts
3. Pohang 20pts

He broke his nose in the previous game against Daegu but played with a face mask on against Seongnam yesterday and still had a good game. Another of the Korean defenders had a broken nose too but he played the game as well...

Suwon will play Chelsea in a friendly next week (maybe next Friday) so Neretljak might be playing against them if his injury clears up!

I forgot to say, some of the Ultras supporters club made a new flag for Neretljak for the game yesterday:

Nice!

He was allways a great fighter, not many players would play with such an injury. He looks really beat up in that first picture...

Flag looks nice, whoever made it made a really good copy of croatian flag. Those five heralds in the crown are especially tricky, as far as I can see, they are made preatty well.

Another thing - where is that friendly match played? Is the season in Korea now over or there are some other competitions played?

The match will be played in Suwon on Friday 20th May.

Actually Suwon don't want to play the game and neither do Chelsea, but Samsung Electronics arranged it. Samsung recently signed a deal to become Chelsea's sponsors, and they own the Suwon team so they decided Chelsea would come to Korea and told Suwon they had to play the game.

The K-League season starts on Saturday and Suwon will play another game on Wednesday. Then they have to prepare for their final Champions League group match in China on May 25th so they said they don't have time to play the game, but Samsung said they had to play it so they chose May 20th.

Suwon beat Barcelona 1-0 last year in July and that was a great match, but the game against Chelsea won't be good because both teams' players just want to rest...

Anyway I think that Chelsea team have more exelente players and games on Fare East will be some kind promotion for estabilisment one of the new bigest clubs. You now how much MUFC or REAL have influance on this area and now this is a chelange for Chelsea managment under owner pressure. Chelsea have money, players, coach results and now need more and more suppoters.

Suwon lost 1-0 to Chelsea last night and Mato Neretljak played the full 90 minutes. He had a good game and handled Damien Duff and Joe Cole pretty well.

He was still wearing the face mask because of his broken nose.

Here he is with a Chelsea shirt on after the end of the game:

Hi,

Some more news from Korea about Suwon and Mato Neretljak.

Suwon were eliminated from the AFC Champions League in a very big surprise match. They went to China to play Shenzhen Jianlibao and they only needed to draw to qualify for the quarter-finals, but the team lost 1-0.

Also Suwon have signed another Croatian defender. His name is Jasenko Sabitovic, and he has been in Korea for seven years. Actually he became a Korean citizen last year and gave up his Croatian citizenship, and his Korean name is now Lee Sa-bik.

Lee and Neretljak have played together in defence recently (they both played together last night when Suwon drew 1-1 with FC Seoul) but Suwon have been struggling recently with a LOT of players out injured.

I think Sabitovic used to play for Dynamo Zagreb. He came to Korea in 1998 when he was 25 years old and I think he's played a couple of times for the Croatian national team when he was younger. He definitely played for the Croatian U21 team.

Hi,

Long time with no update of Mato Neretljak

Anyway the league season is finished for Suwon and they came 9th out of 13 teams which is a big surprise. They are in the FA Cup quarter-finals though and could still win that, next game is December 10th.

Neretljak was Suwon's top scorer for the season with 10 goals from 31 games (including K-League and Hauzen Cup competitions), and he was Suwon's top K-League goalscorer with five goals from 20 league games.

For the full season he was joint 6th top goalscorer:

1. Park Chu-young (FC Seoul) - 18
2. Sandro Hiroshi (Daegu) - 17
3. Kim Do-hoon (Seongnam) - 13
4. Da Silva (Pohang) - 12
5. Adrian Neaga (Chunnam) - 11
6. Leandro Machado (Ulsan) - 10
7. Dzenan Radoncic (Incheon) - 10
8. Eduardo Francisco da Silva (Seongnam) - 10
9. Mato Neretljak (Suwon) - 10
10. Selmir dos Santos Bezzera (Incheon) - 9

Here's a recent picture of Mato Neretljak and Jasenko Sabitovic together after a game:
